Rest For the Body, Rest For the Soul

Six days you shall do your work . . .

. . . and on the seventh day you shall rest . . .

. . . that your ox and your donkey may rest . . .

. . .  and the son of your maidservant . . .

. . . and the stranger may be refreshed.  Exodus 23:12

Then the apostles gathered to Jesus and told Him all things,
what they had done and what they had taught.  And He said to them, "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while."  For there were many coming and going and they did not even have time to eat.  So they departed to a deserted place . . . by themselves.  Mark 6:30-32

Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised.  There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses.  1 Kings 8:56

'Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,' says the LORD,  'nor be dismayed, O Israel; for behold I will save you from afar,  and your seed from the land of their captivity.
Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet, and no one shall make him afraid.  For I am with you,' says the LORD, ' to save you. . . '   Jeremiah 30:10,11a

For thus says the LORD God, the Holy One of Israel:
"In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and confidence shall be your strength."
Isaiah 30:15

Return to your rest, O my soul, for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.  Psalm 116:7

"Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and your will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."  Matthew 11:28-30

There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.  For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.  Hebrews 4:9,10

  1. Exactly what I needed to read this weekend - something that tells me that REST is O.K.
I am exhausted, my focus is scattered, my ability to accept new information saturated.
God tells us that we need rest - and in this blog you've managed to distill His words into a pure elixer delivered with graphic examples. Thank you.

  3. Ah, rest. If only more of us would heed the words of Scripture. Beautifully done once again, Andrea.

  4. I lay down to nap and turn on the glanced at the internet to see if you had posted since I last read. Thanks for the subject matter. If I weren't certain before, I am now. My "task" for today is REST.

I took a quote from one of your comments to write my post today. I hope you'll stop on over to read.

    You bless me, zzzzzzz

  7. Andrea Dawn, so much Scripture – you can never go wrong with Scripture. And I heart how you hand picked them – to go with your theme – to go with your Hammack!! And are those "converging lines" on your Hammack? I need a new converging line picture – and I'd heart it if you would let me use that one – I might have to crop you out because that would imply the converging lines lead from you – but those converging lines – I covet them :) I might forget that I asked – so if you give me permission – please scoot over to my site and leave a comment or send me an e-mail. Anyway, thank you for this Andrea Dawn – perfect weekend reflections.
